When Laura asked me what I wanted for my birthday this year, I told her that I wanted to be able to take a walkabout all by
myself so that I didn't have to worry about the kids when taking pictures.  I was really excited, but then on the actual day of my
birthday, it was quite foggy.  I ventured out anyway, figuring if nothing else, I could take some pictures of the botanical
gardens in the fog and do some shopping.  I did that, and then about halfway home, the fog lifted and I got some more
pictures of things that I hadn't yet.  I know that a lot of these pictures are more "typical tourist" pictures, but oh well.  I'll work on
getting more unique ones at a later date.
As I mentioned in Audrey's park page, there is a nice park with a nice kids area to play in on one side, and on the other side,
there's a bunch of tables so that the old men can play chess.  I wanted to get pictures of the men.  Nobody seemed to mind
me taking pictures of them, although one guy yelled at me for standing on the bench to get a better shot.  Oh well.
Finally, my last stop on the trip (it was about four hours, thanks to my blessed wife) was the Volodomyrsky Cathedral.  I really
like the feel of this church, mostly because of the blue domes with stars on them.  While I was taking pictures, a guy was
playing the bells in the tower.  There's one picture of him, but you can't really see him all that well.  He was pulling all these
strings to make the bells toll.  It was awesome.  The white thing he's holding he was shaking to make some high pitched bells
clang.
Then, of course, the birthday cake.  The reason I have roses is because I like frosting, and roses are the best way to get the
most frosting on top of a piece of cake.  Laura gave me all five :)  Then, Laura also insisted on putting 28 candles on the
cake.  I didn't make the smoke alarm go off.  Not yet.  Give me a couple more years.  All in all, though, it was a most wonderful
birthday.  Pretty much the best birthday ever.
