THE SPUSK AND SOME BUILDINGS
When Laura asked me what I wanted for my birthday this year, I told her that I wanted to be able to take a walkabout all by
myself so that I didn't have to worry about the kids when taking pictures. I was really excited, but then on the actual day of my
birthday, it was quite foggy. I ventured out anyway, figuring if nothing else, I could take some pictures of the botanical
gardens in the fog and do some shopping. I did that, and then about halfway home, the fog lifted and I got some more
pictures of things that I hadn't yet. I know that a lot of these pictures are more "typical tourist" pictures, but oh well. I'll work on
getting more unique ones at a later date.
I guess there's actually two botanical gardens in Kiev. This one is behind the Shevchenko (Red) University. The leaves are
starting to turn and fall, but I want to go back in a couple of weeks because I think there will be a lot of nice color then. The
guy on top was doing Tai Chi. I thought it was way cool. The last picture is one of the roads on the way to the Maidan (which I
didn't get due to fog). The statue you see is of Lenin.
So then I did some shopping at the Spusk (where else?) which is where you get the Matryoshka dolls. I finally took some
pictures of the dolls, don't know why I hadn't done that before. I bought myself a little framed picture for my birthday. Then on
the way back home, the fog finally lifted, and I got pictures of the Golden Gate (The last remaining portion of the original gate
of Kiev), the Opera House, Shevchenko University, also known as the Red University, and some other random building that I
thought was cool.
