A DAY IN THE LIFE... NOV 24, 2007
On the evening of the 23rd, Laura decided that she wanted to document the next day through a little photo journal. I don't
know why the 24th, because it was a fairly busy, not fairly typical day, but from the moment we woke up, we set out to
document everything. Here's what we got.
6:45 a.m. - The kids and Laura
are already up, and Laura
decides that it's time for me to
be up as well. We have a lot to
do, so I'm really ok with it, but it's
6:45 in the morning, for crying
out loud! Can't they sleep just a
little bit longer?
6:46 a.m. - To her credit, Laura
did try to keep the kids quiet by
having them watch Bambi. They
weren't quite ready to eat yet,
so instead they knocked over
the piles of clothes that we had
folded so nicely the night
6:52 a.m. - Chester's ready to
eat, so we give him a banana.
'Nana' is one of about 20 words
that he says that we can
distinguish. We think it may just
mean food to him, but maybe
6:53 a.m. - (obviously) I decide
that it's time for me to join the
rest of the family in their early
7:28 a.m. - Audrey wants to eat
her breakfast. This particular
morning she declared she would
eat in the high chair (why? I
don't know.), so she had to wait
for Chester to vacate it before
she sat down.
7:40 a.m. - Yes, I feed myself
better than the kids. I had fried
eggs and toast. Yum.
7:58 a.m. - While I'm in the
kitchen clogging my arteries,
Laura's working out to a DVD
my aerobics instructor sister
made for her. So much
9:20 a.m. - I have a photo shoot
scheduled this morning with a
family from work, so after
showering I have to set up my
studio. It doesn't take long, but
poor Chester gets kicked out of
10:00 a.m. - Once everything is
set up, Chester comes toddling
in and sits for some test shots to
check the lights, etc. I've been
doing shoots fairly regularly,
and he knows exactly what to do
to help me out.
12:04 p.m. - The shoot over, we
start getting ready for our
Christmas decorating party
we're having in the afternoon.
We've invited 25 college
students who are here in
Ukraine teaching English for a
semester to help us decorate
our home. On the menu?
Donuts, hot chocolate, and
wassail. (the donut dough is on
12:10 p.m. - Laura poses with
her pot o' wassail.
12:33 p.m. - My friend Dennis
comes over for a brief
1:50 p.m. - Since I had
everything set up for the shoot
earlier, I volunteered to take
pictures of the English teachers.
This group of five took me up on
the offer, so I do a quick shoot
before the rest of the guests
2:26 p.m. - Decorating is in full
swing with garlands and nativity
sets and other Christmassy stuff
strewn about the house.
2:30 p.m. - One of the girls
really wanted to string popcorn,
so that's what we did!
Unfortunately Audrey's taken to
eating it off the tree. Yuck.
2:48 p.m. - I run a quick errand
to pick up the enlargement we
had made of our family photo we
took a week or so ago. It turned
out nice and is now hanging in
3:06 p.m. - I come home to find
that the donuts are done.
Yee-haw! They are yummy
3:32 p.m. - Decorating has
come to a little stand still as we
wait for the lights to be finished.
Easily the most annoying part of
decorating at Christmas time
(although the end result is worth
it), we were really happy to have
helpers do it for us this year!
4:13 p.m. - Once the lights are
on, the tree gets finished in a
jiff. Chester even got to take his
turn 'putting on' some
4:49 p.m. - After the decorating
was over we sang some
Christmas carols. Audrey was
entranced by the tree, so she
continued 'decorating' it for
6:17 p.m. - Carols and other
games over, the teachers
decide to play Apples to Apples.
Audrey, of course, sits right in
the middle not wanting to miss
out on any of the action..
6:37 p.m. - Having ordered pizza
in advance I take a couple of
teachers with me to pick it up.
It's not ready yet so we have to
wait for a few minutes. This
group just seemed to be
enjoying themselves so I
snapped a couple of paparazzi
6:51 p.m. - Pizza's done! I just
thought they looked funny
carrying a bunch of large pizzas
through the mall, so I took a pic!
7:23 p.m. - One of the teachers
has to take an insulin shot. I
ask her if I can give it to her and
she agrees. Fun fun fun!
7:23 p.m. - I know this is the
same event, but I had to prove
that I actually did give her her
shot, and didn't just pose for the
8:09 p.m. - The teachers gone,
we spend a few minutes playing
with the snow globe before bed
and enjoy just being a family
8:32 p.m. - After the kids are in
bed, I start my daily ritual of
doing the dishes. Remember,
no man was ever shot in the
back while doing the dishes.
9:04 p.m. - Laura and I have
been busy lately working on
different projects. Good thing
we have his and her computers
and can parallel play!
10:47 p.m. - Laura's in bed
already, and I'm just putting the
finishing touches on a talk I'm
giving in church the next day.
11:00 p.m. - Finally, I go to bed.
A very long, very busy, but very
fun day over at last.
